Sexual Assault -Five Islands Park
On August 7th, at approximately 9:33 a.m., New Rochelle Police Officers responded to 81 Lefevres Lane (Five Islands Park) on the report of a sexual assault. The victim, a female juvenile, was located and treated for her injuries at a local hospital. The victim stated an unknown male had followed her down Main Street to the park. She was grabbed from behind and assaulted. A female adult witnessed what was occurring and interceded causing the perpetrator to flee the scene. Patrol units began to canvass for the suspect.
New Rochelle Police Detectives were able to locate the perpetrator at approximately 2:00 p.m. in the vicinity of New Rochelle High School. The perpetrator, a 15-year-old male juvenile, was arrested without incident. Detectives were then able to link the perpetrator to an assault that occurred on August 4th, at 5:37 p.m. on Soundview Street in New Rochelle. In that incident the perpetrator similarly followed a female juvenile. He attacked her from behind and brought her to the ground. Two citizens witnessed what was transpiring and called out scaring the suspect off. In both attacks the attacker was unknown to the victim.

Robbery
On August 16th, 2023 at about 10:43pm, New Rochelle Police were called the area near the intersection of Remington Place and Prince Street on a report of a robbery that just occurred. Two male victims, ages 33 and 21, told responding police that they drove to New Rochelle to buy a Sony PlayStation that was for sale online. Upon arriving in New Rochelle, the suspects directed them to meet a different location than what was originally agreed upon. The victims then met the two suspects at the new location and both parties entered the victim’s vehicle. They proceeded to drive to two more locations and ended at the intersection of Remington Place and Prince Street. Once there, the suspects displayed handguns and proceeded to take $300 from the driver, before fleeing on foot toward Lincoln Avenue. The suspects are described as being black males in their late teens to early twenties, wearing all black clothing. New Rochelle Police ask that anyone with further information on this incident call the non-emergency line at 914-654-2300.
The New Rochelle Police Department recommends that anyone involved in an internet- based sale use caution when meeting the seller and to select a safe location to do so, such as a local Police Department lobby.
Stolen Auto Arrest
On August 15th, 2023, at about 11:30am, New Rochelle Detectives observed a suspicious vehicle traveling on North Avenue that matched a description of a recently stolen vehicle out of Greenwich, CT. The vehicle had one Connecticut license plate affixed to it although two plates are required by Connecticut State Law. The vehicle was parked by the operator who then entered a building on Anderson Street. The vehicle’s license plate was checked by Detectives and it was found to be a stolen license plate out of New York City.
Detectives conducted surveillance on the vehicle awaiting the operator to return. At about 2:00pm, the operator returned to the vehicle and was placed under arrest without incident. The suspect also had an active arrest warrant for Burglary out of Pennsylvania.
ARRESTED: Juan Pablo Castillo, 26 years of age, of New Rochelle – formerly State College, PA.
CHARGES: New York State Penal Law Sections: 165.50 Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree – D Felony; 165.40 Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree – A Misdemeanor.
DWI Crash
On Sunday July 30th, 2023, at about 4:25am, New Rochelle Police responded to 1 Drake Avenue on a report that a motor vehicle crashed into a building and multiple people sustained injuries. Upon arrival, Police observed the vehicle against the building and were able to render aid to five pedestrians who sustained injuries from the crash. The victims were transported by ambulance to local hospitals and none of the injuries appeared life threatening. Further investigation lead to the driver of the vehicle being arrested for various charges including Driving While Intoxicated.
