CANDESCENCE: A Tribute to Charlotte Mills Mouquin Voznesenskaya at Pelham Art Center
Pelham Art Center announce the opening of CANDESCENCE: A Tribute to Charlotte Mills Mouquin Voznesenskaya on display through August. Nearly a year after the unexpected loss of Mouquin, who had served as PAC’s beloved Executive Director for five years, this exhibition will pay tribute to her legacy, talent, and creativity as an artist, curator, mentor, advocate and community builder. Mouquin described her artwork as “balancing the chaotic life forces that surround human nature and connect all people.”
The word Candescence, defined as “ light that emanates from or as if from great heat,” captures Charlotte’s personal dynamism and the intensity and warmth of all facets of her professional work in the arts. Speaking of her work as a curator, Charlotte stated that “one of the greatest things about art is the shared experience of human reflection and ultimately, connection.” Connecting people through art was at the core of everything that Charlotte did. In this exhibition, PAC celebrates the web of artists and communities she wove and nurtured, and that she herself was a part of, which continues to grow, connect, and impact.
In addition to Mouquin’s own artwork, the exhibit, curated by Rosa Van Zandt, Paula Wood and Lisa Koonce, will feature the art of members of the community of artists Charlotte nurtured, worked amongst, and gained inspiration from throughout New York City, Westchester and Rockland counties.
These include: Fiona Agababian, Alexandra Rutsch Brock, Kris Campbell, Erin Cardullo, Charles Clary, Nicky Enright, Kate Fauvell, Hayley Ferber, Jakob Ferrera, Sabrina Harrison, Mackenzie “Mac” Heslin-Scott, Edgar Jerins, Sara Jimenez and Jason Schwartz, Elizabeth Knowles, Rachel Banklian Krause, Paige Lauren, Barry L. Mason, Christina Massey, Beau McCall, Paula McKeever, Rick Midler, Alice Mizrachi and Joel Blenz, Astiney Montiel, Charlotte Mouquin, Ruben Natal-San Miguel, Sui Park, Arlene Rush, Susan Saas, Scott Seaboldt, Manju Shandler, Gabriel J Shuldiner, Danny Simmons, Fran Sisco, Emlyn Taveras, Melissa Weiland, Paula Wood, Jaime Wright, and Win Zibeon.
“Candescence will honor and commemorate Charlotte Mills Mouquin Voznesenskaya; the exhibition will feature the work of over thirty artists from several different communities that Charlotte (and her bright, artistic vision) has powerfully impacted throughout her life,” said Rosa Van Zandt, Pelham Art Center’s Gallery & Events Manager.
