New Rochelle Opera Announces Principal Casting for Verdi’s Nabucco

New Rochelle Opera proudly announces the principal casting for its highly anticipated concert version of Giuseppe Verdi’s monumental opera Nabucco, to be presented on Friday, May 15 and Sunday, May 17, 2026, at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, New York.

Under the baton of Maestro Jason Tramm, Artistic and General Director of New Rochelle Opera, this powerful concert performance will feature a distinguished cast of vocal artists:

• Jason Detwiler as Nabucco – (Tulsa Opera and Opera Idaho)

• Christina Major as Abigaille – (Teatro Colón and Opera Tampa)

• Jeremy Brauner as Ismaele – (Sarasota Opera and Cedar Rapids Opera)

• Brandon Coleman as Zaccaria –(Metropolitan Opera and Sarasota Opera)

• Michelle Detwiler as Fenena – (Opera Idaho and Opera Modesto)

Premiered in 1842 at La Scala, Nabucco marked Verdi’s first great triumph and remains one of the composer’s most stirring and politically charged works. Best known for the iconic chorus “Va, pensiero,” the opera tells a powerful story of exile, faith, redemption, and liberation. The score brims with dramatic intensity, soaring vocal lines, and monumental choral writing that has inspired audiences for generations.

Presented in concert format, this performance will place Verdi’s electrifying music front and center, allowing audiences to experience the full emotional and sonic power of the score through orchestra, chorus, and soloists.

Maestro Jason Tramm shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming performances: “Nabucco is more than an opera—it is a testament to the enduring power of faith, resilience, and the human spirit. Verdi’s music reminds us that even in moments of exile and uncertainty, hope can rise in breathtaking harmony. We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary work to New Rochelle with such a dynamic cast and chorus.”
