Blood Drive Planned at Stepinac High School
Continuing its commitment to help meet the urgent need for blood donations, Stepinac High School will host a community Blood Drive for the New York Blood Center (NYBC) on Thursday, October 12.
The drive will be administered by the NYBC in the gymnasium of the renowned all-boys Catholic high school at 950 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains.
Once again, Stepinac students, parents, members of the administration, faculty, staff and individuals from the community will roll up their sleeves to donate blood to help save lives.
Stepinac, a long-time supporter of the NYBC, conducted two blood drives during the 2022-23 academic school year. A total of 140 individuals donated blood, potentially saving about 320 lives in area hospitals as each donated pint of blood can save three lives.
Stepinac’s participation in the New York Yankees’ 2022-2023 High School Donor Championships initiative was recognized by the 27-time World Champion team.
In a letter to Principal Paul Carty last January, Brian Cashman, General Manager of The New York Yankees, said: “Together with the New York Blood Center, we are proud to honor the students, faculty and staff who have made more than 1,000,000 blood donations since the inception of the program.”
Cashman noted that the unprecedented health crisis— the Covid-19 pandemic— had caused the loss of more than 20,000 high school donations and urged all schools to commit to multiple blood drives to help save lives.
Stepinac’s renewed commitment with the October 12 blood drive will help the critically important cause. As Cashman’s letter states: “Cancer patients, accident victims, transplant recipients, burn victims and others in need count on volunteer blood donors to provide the ‘gift of life.’ Blood cannot be manufactured; healthy people must donate it.”
