Bastille Day Weekend Celebrates New Rochelle-La Rochelle Sister City Relations
During Bastille Day weekend, the New Rochelle Sister City Committee welcomed the community to a series of events celebrating the historic friendship and cultural exchanges between the cities of New Rochelle and La Rochelle, France. On Friday July 14, a flag raising in front of City Hall featured Sister City members Chair Wendy Vigroux, Peter Korn. The ceremony featured keynote speaker James Kaplan, Esq. on the topic “Lafayette: the French Connection”, and local artists coordinated by Brian Carter and including musicians from La Rochelle, France: Emmanuell Pelletier, Maud Gadrat and Sasha Petrochine Rousseau. The weekend continued with jazz concerts at Huguenot Park, Ruby Dee Park at Library Green, and area restaurants.
