New Rochelle Heats Up for Summer with New Community Events and More!

The City of New Rochelle is proud to present a dynamic slate of summer programming and major public realm improvements throughout the City and downtown. Anchored by the ambitious Vanguard Initiative, New Rochelle’s downtown will serve as a hub of activity throughout the summer months with signature events and festivals, vibrant public space activations, and infrastructure upgrades that enhance walkability, safety, and the overall downtown experience. Across the City, New Rochelle’s parks and green areas will be activated with new ways to experience the community spaces. Additionally, CircuitNR, the City’s free shuttle service, will offer convenient, on-demand transportation throughout New Rochelle, making it easier than ever for residents to explore and enjoy the full range of events and activations happening across the city.

“This summer marks an awakening for our City, and specifically for our downtown,” said Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert, “The vibrancy of our City, defined by the diverse residents and business owners that make up our community, is put on full display during the summer months. We are dedicated to providing unique opportunities for businesses to gain visibility and engage with community members at events and public spaces throughout New Rochelle, creating both opportunities to grow their reach and new ways to interact with their neighborhood.”

Upcoming summer programming in the Vanguard District includes:

Downtown Summer Sizzle: A weekly celebration of music, food, and fun, the Summer Sizzle series will fill the streets with an exciting lineup of nationally touring headliners and award-winning artists at Ruby Dee Park—plus highlighted nearby restaurants for concert-goers to enjoy. The series runs weekly on Saturdays through August.

Anderson Plaza Activations: From outdoor performances and art installations to family-friendly games and weekend markets, Anderson Plaza continues to evolve as a vibrant public square and cultural hot spot.

o Taste of Anderson Plaza – Jazz Under the Stars: Experience the vibrant sounds of live jazz, now with expanded outdoor seating and an array of delicious dining options. The summer music series begins August 7 and continues through September 4.

This summer, residents and visitors will also experience a noticeably improved downtown, thanks to recent infrastructure upgrades that support walkability, safety, and comfort, creating a more enjoyable downtown experience. Completed improvements include:

Shoppers can take a break between errands, meet up with friends, and relax at the downtown’s expanded public settings and shaded rest areas.

Residents and visitors can navigate downtown on foot with ease during the day or after dark with safer pedestrian crossings and directional signs, resurfaced sidewalks, and upgraded street lighting.

Streetscape beautification, including murals and native plantings, allows for a visually vibrant backdrop for all kinds of downtown trips.

Residents can also take advantage of vibrant public programming at the City’s new Downtown Recreation Center in New Roc City, operated and programmed with regular, family-friendly events by the New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department.

For a sample of the diverse dining offerings in the Vanguard District, recent openings in the downtown include:

Board games and cozy outdoor seating create a welcoming space that’s perfect for both productivity and relaxation. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As summer brings life to the streets, the City’s broader revitalization continues to unfold. Last fall, New Rochelle unveiled its Downtown Retail Strategy, which builds on the momentum of over $2.5 billion in private investment and more than 10,000 new housing units currently planned or under construction. Within this transformation is the Retail Tenant Improvement Fund (RTIF) program, which plays a critical role in reinvesting future growth back into the community. The RTIF will provide vital financial support for physical improvements, expansion, and relocation expenses to existing and prospective retail businesses or property owners seeking to activate vacant spaces in Downtown New Rochelle —without placing additional burden on current taxpayers. The City of New Rochelle recently announced the first recipients of the Retail Tenant Improvement Fund, offered to eight local businesses, including Hour to Exit escape room, Mona: Indian Eatery, Casaroma Cafe, and The Lincoln Park Conservancy History & Cultural Center, among others.

“Our Vanguard District is shaping up just in time for summer,” said Commissioner of Development Adam Salgado. “The Vanguard Initiative works to ensure our growth is balanced, inclusive, and sustainable. We’re creating exciting new opportunities for small businesses to launch their concepts through tools like the Retail Tenant Improvement Fund, while breathing new life into our retail corridors with design upgrades and strategic storefront revitalization.”

In addition to happenings in the downtown district, the City of New Rochelle’s neighborhoods and public spaces will come to life with even more enriching programming for residents and visitors. CircuitNR, New Rochelle’s free shuttle service for residents, makes it easy to enjoy the City’s robust programming all summer long. Riders can hail the nearest shuttle or order an on-demand pick-up via the CircuitNR mobile app.

Upcoming Summer Programming Accessible by Circuit:

NRCA’s Summer Sounds Concert Series: The New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) returns to nearby Hudson Park with a full lineup of free outdoor concerts, bringing diverse musical acts and energizing evenings to residents and visitors. The concerts will run weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and select Saturdays from June 25 through August 27.

o The New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) has also opened its first-ever headquarters on the second floor of the New Rochelle Transit Center. The space, provided by the City, will serve as a hub for NRCA’s planning, collaboration, and community engagement. NRCA’s new home reflects the kind of creative energy and community leadership that continues to define New Rochelle’s downtown renaissance and provides a glimpse at what the new and activated New Rochelle Transit Center will look like.

“Taste Of” Event Series

o Taste of Leroy: A showcase of retail and small businesses around Leroy Pl and South Division St, including organizations from the Lincoln neighborhood. The event will be held on July 26 at Leroy Pl, featuring Shirley’s India, Krave, 4Bros Pizza, Juiiicy, amongst others.

o Taste of Horton: This event will bring the retail community together, showcasing the businesses around the Horton and North Ave area, and other businesses associated with the Lincoln Neighborhood, such as SuggarPlums, Pepe’s, and AJ’s, amongst others.
