NRHS Senior Named National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist

New Rochelle High School is proud that senior Momir I. Petrovic has been honored as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. The 68th annual National Merit Scholarship program recognizes talented high school seniors with outstanding academic achievement. There are 16,000 semifinalists nationwide competing for 7,280 scholarships worth nearly $28 million. The scholarships will be awarded in the spring.
“I was surprised when I learned that I was a semifinalist. I was even more surprised when I learned that I was the only one from our school. The notification came out of nowhere. One day, my mom sent me a news article listing all the National Merit semifinalists in our area and when I checked it, I was there,” said Momir. “While taking the PSAT, I wasn’t thinking about the scholarship. I was only looking at the PSAT as a tool to see what I need to focus on while studying for the SAT.”
Momir is interested in computers and video games, and he is learning to code his own game. He is the webmaster of the new NRHS Computer Science Honors Society. Momir plans to go to college to earn a computer science degree and plans to apply to a variety of schools.
