A Message from Superintendent Jonathan P. Raymond

January 10, 2023
Dear New Rochelle Community,
I am writing to you today to share that I have informed the Board of Education of my plans to resign as Superintendent of Schools, effective at the end of this school year. This decision is based on my need to return to the Boston area full time to support my family. While this was a very difficult decision for me and comes sooner than I hoped, I believe it is the best decision for me at this time.
I have grown to love and appreciate this community and its rich and proud history. In our short time here, my wife and I have made good friends and hope to remain connected to New Rochelle. We will always be grateful for the warm hospitality we have experienced, it’s something that makes New Rochelle very special.
As your superintendent, I have been grateful to lead a community of dedicated educators and staff who have shown a willingness to support and trust new leadership and get behind a shared vision to support each and every child with the excellent education they all deserve. We have much to do in the coming six months, and during the remainder of my time, I will be as focused as ever on the important work in front of us, such as expanding afterschool and summer opportunities for our students, developing a fiscally responsible budget that meets the needs of our schools, continuing to deepen partnerships with our families and the broader community, and keeping up the drumbeat of positive stories about our amazing students and great things happening in our schools every day.
Thank you for entrusting me with the education of your children; there is no more important work.
Sincerely,
Jonathan P. Raymond
Superintendent of Schools
