Councilmember Yadira Ramos-Herbert Calls on Congressional Action to Reduce Property Taxes through Repealing the SALT Tax Deduction Cap; Strikes Stark Difference From Opponent Who Voted Against Repeal

Yadira Ramos-Herbert, candidate for Mayor of New Rochelle, is calling on federal lawmakers to repeal Donald Trump’s punitive limits on SALT cap deductions for federal taxes.

This statement comes shortly after the Westchester County Board of Legislators voted to headline their requests from Congress with a repeal of the SALT Tax Deduction Cap with the only vote in opposition being County Legislator Damon Maher.

“Here in Westchester County, we already pay some of the highest property taxes in the entirety of the country. Our homeowners in New Rochelle deserve relief, we do not deserve double taxation. We are not asking for a handout – New York only receives $0.74 for every $1.00 we pay in federal taxes – we are asking not to be double-taxed,” said Councilmember Yadira Ramos-Herbert in a statement.

County Legislator Maher, the only legislator to vote against repealing the cap, expressed disbelief during the legislative session that property tax relief was a priority for other county leaders, “My disappointment that we have the SALT repeal first is deep.”
