Shooting – 1 Person Hit Non-Life Threatening Injuries

On February 24th, 2023, at about 9:27pm, New Rochelle Police received multiple calls of shots fired in the area of 371 Main Street.  Upon arrival, New Rochelle Police located one shooting victim who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. An apparent errant shot from this incident hit a 13th floor window at 360 Huguenot Street, which is approximately half a mile away and in the direct line of site of the shooting.  

 

New Rochelle Detectives responded to process both scenes.  Multiple shell casings were recovered and detectives are currently developing leads.  Preliminary accounts indicate there was a dispute between two parties prior to the shooting, and that the suspect fled in a dark colored vehicle eastbound on Main Street.  Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.

 

Armed Robbert – Liquor Store, 558 North Avenue

On March 8th, 2023, at about 6:50pm, New Rochelle Police responded to New Rochelle Wines, located at 558 North Avenue, on a report of an armed robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, the store clerk reported that a male entered the store at about 6:48pm, displayed a black handgun and demanded the clerk open the cash register. 

 

The suspect then took all the cash and fled southbound on North Avenue on a black motorcycle with no license plates. 

The suspect is described as approximately 5’ 10” tall, unknown race, wearing a gray motorcycle helmet, gray backpack, black pants, blue jacket with gray sleeves and a red hooded sweatshirt.

Multiple Overdoses – 3 Deceased, 1 Critical Condition

On March 25th, 2023, at about 2:43 PM, New Rochelle Police received a call from a male stating he was possibly overdosing and that he was with three others who were also overdosing and now unresponsive.  The caller was disoriented did not know where he was, and New Rochelle Police Dispatchers were able ping his cell phone and determined his location to be 50 Fountain Place.  Responding officers located the caller and the three other unresponsive males in a storage room in the rear of 50 Fountain Place.  New Rochelle Fire and EMS personnel responded and transported the caller to a local hospital.  The three other males at the scene were pronounced deceased by EMS Personnel.  Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.  

 

UPDATE FROM FIRST RELEASE: The three deceased men from the March 25th overdose incident have been identified, all three were New Rochelle residents.

• Carl Encarnacion, 43 years of age

• Danny Howard, 49 years of age 

• Sean Thomas Windley, 28 years of age

 

The City of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Police Department extends our sincerest sympathy to the families of these three men.  The fourth victim, an Mt. Vernon resident, remains hospitalized and will not be identified at this time.

2 Robberies and a Burglary

Suspect Caught

On March 16th, 2023, at about 3:43pm, New Rochelle Police received a call that a woman was stabbed and beaten and was now inside a store at Main Street and Webster Avenue. While responding there, New Rochelle Police received another call of a strong-arm robbery a short distance away on Woodland avenue just off Main Street. Responding police observed the suspect fleeing the area and a foot chase through back yards occurred throughout the Residence Park Neighborhood on the Southside of New Rochelle. Detectives canvassing found the suspect inside a home on Laurel Place. The suspected attempted to flee and was Tasered and placed under arrest without further use of force.

 

The investigation revealed that the suspect is alleged to have robbed a convenience store at 683 Main Street, severely assaulting the worker there and then ran off and committed a strong-arm robbery a block away, robbing a pedestrian of cash. While attempting to evade police, the suspect broke into a home on Laurel Place that was occupied by a woman and her two young children. The woman was able to keep him calm while covertly messaging a neighbor to call the police, leading to his capture. The initial victim from 683 Main Street was transported to a local hospital where she was listed as in serious, but stable condition.
