Rep. Bowman Delivers Nearly $100 million in Funding for Westchester and the Bronx

Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ed.D. (NY-16) successfully passed $96.4 million in funding for 15 community projects in New York’s 16th Congressional District that he advocated for as part of the FY2023 Federal Appropriations package, which was signed into law on December 29th, 2022. These funds will provide Westchester and the Northeast Bronx communities with urgent violence prevention resources, mental health support, summer and afterschool programming, hospital upgrades, workforce development opportunities, climate investments, and public infrastructure capital improvements. In addition, Congressman Bowman successfully advocated for the inclusion of critical post-disaster funding for public transit agencies, including $76 million to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) for capital improvements needed in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

Each of these projects will move us forward as a community: launching workforce development initiatives in Yonkers; providing at risk youth opportunities to reduce youth violence in Westchester; helping New York City support unhoused children, families, and asylum seekers; providing senior programming at NYCHA developments; addressing the need to rehabilitate the Lake Isle Dam and so much more. I will take every opportunity I get to direct more federal funding to our incredible district in the 118th Congress.”

Local Community Project Funding requests are as follows: 

$2 million to the City School District of New Rochelle to create a holistic summer and after school learning experience for K-12 students

 $1,125,000 to Justice Innovation to fund a Community Youth Violence Intervention Initiative in New Rochelle

$3 million to Montefiore Medical Center to expand behavioral health clinics in Westchester County Public Schools

$2,560,000 to Westchester County for a study of the Lake Isle Dam to promote safety, flood mitigation, and environmental justice in Southern Westchestercom.
