“Game On” a Game Changer for NRPL Foundation

The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation raised $75,000 with an after-hours game night for 200 grown ups on March 11th: For the “Game On” fundraiser the NRPLF turned the library into a giant mini-golf course – with help from a professional mini golf company — and created spaces for a variety of games, from a Mahjong “parlor” to a Ping Pong area, with nooks set aside for “lightning” Scrabble and Wordle. Guests also enjoyed music (including karaoke), nibbles, liquid libations and a whiskey tasting on Friday night.

Then on Saturday morning children and families were invited to try their hand at the mini-golf course free of charge: More than 500 people turned out over the course of a rainy afternoon.

Local businesses and organizations got in on the fun by sponsoring one of the 18 “holes”: Montefiore of New Rochelle decorated #16 with balloons, Modern Restaurant created a “hazard” out of a wooden pizza paddle (with a golf ball-size hole cut out) while the City of New Rochelle’s Fire and Police departments used tools at hand – “Caution” tape, crime scene markers and firefighter helmets and boots – to dress up #15.

The event’s Lead Sponsors were The City of New Rochelle/NRNY, RXR, Cappelli Organization and Masonry Depot; Event Sponsors were Northstar Properties, M & T Bank, Montefiore New Rochelle and Twinings/Pratt Landing.

“Game On  really put the “fun” in our annual fundraiser,” says Chris Selin, NRPLF President. “We had a big Gala last spring, so we wanted to try something different this year, and Game On was just the ticket. It gave our guests a chance to hang out and enjoy some friendly competition while getting a look at what we’ve accomplished inside the library, like the renovation of the 3rd floor currently in progress, and helping us raise funds to keep the NRPL cutting edge.”

Vice President Lynn Green added that in addition to building renovations the NRPL Foundation funds programs like the popular Museum Passes, allowing families free access to many local and NYC museums, as well as updated technology — like computers and software in the children’s room at the Main Branch as well as the Huguenot Children’s Library.
