New Rochelle Author Publishes First Children’s Book

Making friends in a new place is daunting enough, let alone when you hail from a very different place… and you happen to be green. How would you navigate visiting a planet far from home amidst wary natives?

Meet Freckle Face from Outer Space, a new children’s picture book written by New Rochelle resident Margaret Montavon. A standalone book (and the first of at least ten planned titles), this story introduces readers to the world of Ally Alien, her cat Star, and their gaggle of earthling friends who, after some initial trepidation toward the newcomers, learn how acceptance and kindness should always triumph over differences and fear. Written in lyric rhyme and drenched in out-of-this-world hues, Freckle Face from Outer Space is sure to delight young readers and explorers of all ages, with a target audience of ages 4-7.

Margaret Montavon is an actor, producer, writer, and educator who believes in harnessing the transformative power of literature to tell meaningful stories, spark crucial dialogues, incite curiosity, and inspire creativity and positive social change. Margaret wrote this story to bring about an inclusivity-centered bit of joy during the peak of the pandemic in 2020, and the inspiration is very close to her heart. Like Ally Alien, Margaret was once new at a school, where she was promptly nicknamed “freckle face from outer space.” Inspired by her lifelong journey of self-acceptance and her own years spent as a teacher, Margaret hopes the stories found within Freckle Face World will resonate in classrooms, homes, and libraries as a beloved read-aloud, and serve as a reminder to audiences to embrace their uniqueness, encourage their youthful sense of wonder, and to practice open-mindedness toward others. When not writing these stories, Margaret can be found producing several forthcoming streaming television series, practicing yoga, and attempting to try every restaurant in the Tri-State area.
