From the School Superintendent
Dear City School District of New Rochelle Community,
I extend my deepest and most sincere gratitude for your support for our students and our school district in passing our school district budget. I especially want to thank all of you who came to or viewed Board of Education meetings, attended or viewed community budget presentations, called, or wrote to deepen your understanding of our fiscal climate, and especially to those who helped to spread understanding of how we got to where we are and how we can best move forward in service to our students.
To say this has been a difficult budget development year would be significantly understated. We are still working through the loss of our layoffs. Our City School District of New Rochelle family will look different next year as we will be missing members who were pivotal in our service to our students in this and previous years. This loss will leave a tear in our fabric of support and instruction. We are still faced with the task of rebalancing our classrooms to make sure our students have the optimal educational experience that they so richly deserve.
I am grateful that we have been able to preserve the programs that make New Rochelle such a special school district with diverse offerings, such as our Special Education programming that accommodates the diverse needs of our students with disabilities, the Science Research program that has recently brought us international recognition, the PAVE program that sustains and enriches culture in our community, our AP programs that give students a head start on their higher education careers, our athletic programs, Kaleidoscope, and so many more.
I believe that this budget is an important step on the path to long-term stability and success for our school district. There is still much work to be done, and I hope you will continue the conversations on how we keep moving forward and improving to help every one of our students achieve their very highest potential.
Thank you for your partnership and support in this important endeavor. I look forward to an increasingly bright future ahead.
Sincerely,
Dr. Corey W. Reynolds
Superintendent of Schools
