New Rochelle’s Third Annual “Taste of Union Avenue” Celebrated the City’s Latino Community and Culture

The City of New Rochelle’s annual “Taste of Union Avenue” culinary and cultural festival returned on July 27, for the third year. The free event celebrates New Rochelle’s vibrant Latin community by showcasing local restaurants and small businesses for residents and visitors.

The “Taste of Union Avenue” festival offers a unique opportunity for residents and visitors of all backgrounds to experience the rich culture and diverse cuisines of Latin America, while embracing the community spirit that helps define New Rochelle. This year’s event brought a fresh energy to the city with a lively lineup of participating restaurants and small businesses from the Union Avenue community, featuring an array of exciting new flavors, worldly artist-made goods and crafts, and memorable experiences for all. Guests enjoyed samples from more than 40 Hispanic/Latino-owned local businesses, live music, exhibitions from local artists, and exciting games and activities perfect for all ages.

“We are honored to be able to showcase and honor the Hispanic community of New Rochelle each year with our ‘Taste of Union Avenue’ festival,” said New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert. “This event highlights Hispanic business owners, artists, chefs, and creatives and allows them to share their heritage with our entire City and further their legacy as an integral part of our community.”

“Union Avenue is one of the vibrant neighborhoods that define the City of New Rochelle,” said New Rochelle Council Member Martha Lopez, Westchester County’s Director of Minority & Women-Owned Business Development. “This thriving community, with its family-owned stores and restaurants, benefits the entire City not only economically, but by providing a slice of ‘home’ for our one-third Hispanic population.”

Visitors at “Taste of Union Avenue” were treated to live musical performances from Latino artists including Banda Norteña, Mariachi + Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Bachata and Pop Latino and the electric DJ Fuego. Families and visitors of all ages enjoyed a diverse range of interactive activities from children’s games to arts and crafts for seniors. CircuitNR provided free transportation to and from the New Rochelle Transit Center.
