White Plains Artist Erwin Ong Present “Undersea Whimsy” at Queen City Art Gallery, Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital
A Duck Amuck Art Studio & Gift Shop is excited to announce the solo exhibition, “Undersea Whimsy,” by White Plains-based artist Erwin Ong, on display at the Queen City Art Gallery, located inside the Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. The exhibition will run through December 31, and is sponsored by The Fine Art Program and Collection at Montefiore Einstein, which brings vibrant and meaningful art to healthcare settings.
“Undersea Whimsy” showcases Ong’s signature doodle-inspired marine life, combining bold lines, bright colors, and playful depictions of underwater creatures. From happy fish to smiling sharks, Ong’s work evokes a sense of wonder, inviting viewers of all ages to connect with their inner child and experience the joy of creativity.
In addition to his playful underwater scenes, Ong has created a four-part series dedicated to New Rochelle. The series highlights the city’s community spaces, natural beauty, downtown architecture, the cultural impact of Terrytoons, and its connectivity to the greater tri-state area. As part of this exhibit, one of Ong’s pieces—featuring downtown New Rochelle—has been turned into a coloring sheet and postcard for hospital staff, patients, and visitors to enjoy, offering a tangible way for them to engage with the exhibit by coloring or sending a postcard to a loved one.
Reflecting on the power of art in healthcare environments, Ong said: “Just like I found my voice through art, I believe that art in hospitals can give patients, visitors, and staff a sense of connection and joy during difficult times. My journey has shown me that creativity has the power to break through feelings of isolation, and I’m driven to bring that same sense of wonder and lightness into spaces where it’s needed most. My hope is that my whimsical artwork can remind people in healthcare settings that even in challenging moments, there’s still beauty and playfulness around us.”
The gallery is free to the public and available for viewing from 9am-5pm, 7 days a week.
This exhibition is sponsored by The Fine Art Program and Collection at Montefiore Einstein, an initiative that promotes the healing power of art by providing patients, visitors, and staff with enriching artistic experiences in hospital settings.
